I would define people who have a sense of entitlement as those individuals or groups who believe that they are entitled to something; that something should be handed to them on a plate, even if it ordinarily must be earned or worked for. In my view, someone’s sense of entitlement can extend to mean that those around the individual or group must bow down to their demands no matter what. Some great information on entitlement is here and here.
Recent things I have observed tell me that it is almost fashionable to have a sense of entitlement. The top 3 groups or individuals I have recently noticed that have a sense of entitlement are as follows:
- Youth who believe that they are entitled to cheap housing in the biggest cities, without making any effort to save. A whole sub-sect of a generation believes that they should be able to afford all of the expensive luxuries that they currently do, all whilst owning premium property in the centre (or near) the city.
- Customers, anywhere, who treat service staff badly. You people are absolutely vile. That service person does not deserve your bad treatment. I don’t actually care what happened, they unlikely get paid enough to put up with your shit. Hold your tongue. Or better yet, go shit that pole out of your arse already.
- People who think that they are worthy of bending any rules for. This could be viewed as an extension of #1 or #2, but it’s much more widely applicable. I am not sorry, the rules do apply to you. Piss off, nobody deserves to get in trouble because of you.
If you are getting angry, chances are it’s because you have a sense of entitlement or perhaps even narcissistic personality disorder. Go see someone to get evaluated if you suspect yourself of having that, nobody deserves to put up with having to deal with a narcissist.
